| I was curious to know how many TimeBanks have nonprofit stauts or are thinking about it; or if you have decided not to incorporate, why? | ||

| Woodstock TimeBank has incorporated and received our 501c3 status. We did this because members felt that we needed this designation in order to receive donations and give people the tax write-off. In our area (NY) this seems to be quite important to many folks. It also allows us to approach many businesses and foundations that only give to non-profits.

| Hi there,
I have just started a TB in Montana & have just finished going through the process you are talking about. Of course, it varies from state to state, but here's what I did. Go to your states Secretary of State website & download the forms to Register your business name & File Articles of Incorporation for a non profit corporation for your state. Here in MT, we can make up to $5000/ year before we have any tax liability. But, it is not deductible for others to donate. Then, after the year is up & we have some history, we will file for our 501c3 status with the feds. It's a good idea to speak with an accountant before you file, because certain language must be included in your articles of incorporation now, to be considered for 501c3 status in the future. Hope I helped... good luck to you! Carlyn |

| As social entrepreneurs begin developing business ideas, there is often some confusion as to whether they should go with a for-profit venture or nonprofit status. The right choice depends on the type of product or service .
