| As we all know Time Dollars are worth one hour's worth of service so how do you put a price on items?
The general rule is to never put a monetary amount on an item and try to put a time value on the item instead. Do your best to figure how much time it took to make the item or you and the other member can negotiate an amount that seems fair to you both. Some Time Banks have made every item worth 1 Time Dollar. |

| I just started a Time Bank in Los Angeles and one of our members is in need of a parking spot for 2 months while she is out of town. Another member is willing to provide a spot for her but they don't know how many time dollars to apply to the exchange. Two months would be 1,440 time dollars. Could this be an exception to the one hour equals one time dollar rule? Could we say one time dollar per week?
Thanks in advance for your advice. Confused in Car Culture, Autumn The Echo Park Time Bank |

| Fascinating Question.
I do not see any link between the labor or service of a Time Bank member as being in the same category an empty parking lot. It is like getting a apple pie from a member and documenting a transfer of 2 hours of service to make the pie and then adding 40 or more hours to the transfer because you ate or didn't eat the pie for a week. The guide to the amount of hours to use in the exchange is the labor time that it takes to provide the service. Those service minutes or hours ( in TIME) should be invoiced (as TIME) and that total time is what the receiver transfers to the provider. |
